A Small Victory!

I wish I still had the receipts to show you this small victory I had over money
but I will just have to tell you all about it.
My budget for food n household is $80 I took the money out and
stopped by walmart just to get a fathers day picture that I had already paid for.
I ended up spending $16 before taxes on several items: 2 bubble wands, a brand new pillow (cant buy those used or I want, lol), 2 waterproof pillow protectors, 2 mini blinds my husband mentioned he wanted to replace to in our living room i think that's it.
So now I had $60 limit at HEB for my grocery list. I carefully added up each item and marked it off my list and prioritized a few items as needs or wants added it up to make sure it was below not over $60 and went to check out it was $54 and the circle amount I saved using on electronic coupons, in-store coupons and on sale items was $16 the amount I spent at walmart before taxes. This to me was a very small but needed money in the money management and planning department and it made me excited to share with my husband and now with you. It shows that budgeting and careful planning do add up and leaves room for unplanned spending when you least expect it.

I hope this encourages someone today to start creating a budget and experience victory and freedom from debt by using what you have and being content you can stretch that hard earned dollar so much further than you could ever imagine!

As the Good Book says, "the lender is master to the borrower, do not owe anyone anything but love."

Blessings to you In

Kitchen Fun with Toddlers

Today me and my boys made some pizza, biscuits and cinnamon cookies. I don't always let them help me in the kitchen but today was the day I decided it's time to let them have some fun in the kitchen. They love being apart and helping me in whatever I'm doing. They had fun!

Yard Sale Deals-summer 2015 week 1

With my oldest starting school this fall I am setting aside $20 per week for use at yard sales to purchase all his school uniforms. This week I scored 2 adjustable waist shorts for $1 each! and some great orange bowls and some needed spoons for $6 at first they said $10 and so I went n put them down n kept looking n soon enough they came back n offered me for $6 almost 1/2 off, yeah my husband loves orange n we hadn't bought any new bowls in a long time so this was more of a want but all in all I saved money just on the quality shorts I bought. Key is to be persistent I've already been to about 10 yard sales n this is just my 2nd one where I found his size in school uniforms and try your best not to blow all ur money on great deals you didn't intend on buying, lol! Trust me I know it's hard but what I've been doing is going right to the clothes n even asking the people if they have what i'm looking for and they will either say I don't know or sometimes they will say no or yes n direct me to where they are. and I try to not take my time browsing but be fast 5 minutes or less per yard sale. Other than todays extra purchase I've only spent extra on 2 shirts for me last week for $2 and the week before I found some great toys for the boys for $5 so that's not too bad.

Here's pictures and I'll try to do this each week until school starts.

Quick stuffed Baked Potato

I love sharing easy and quick meals especially when my picky 4 year old will eat them.

Here's a simple crockpot beans n baked potatos dish. The trick with crockpots is to cook ur dinner after breakfast my young friend said that that's not fast n I'm weird, lol oh well, maybe I am but hey it's very easy for me to throw 2 cups of beans n water and some bean seasoning in the crockpot push the high for 4 hours button n not think about it until i smell the aroma of the cooked beans. for the potatos i chopped several up in quarters with the peels after rinsing clean and filled a quart pan with water until boiling n covered up with the lid on med high for 20 min, turned the heat off n let sit until i was ready to drain n serve.

i pilled some of the potato peel off if brown and around the side mashed the potato down n added butter, drained beans and added on top of potato then drizzled ranch and sprinkled with cheese this is a great way to hide vegetables n my son loved it, tricky yep!!

Here's the pics for proof and a visual:

this recipe is very versatile meaning it can be made in many ways to add ingredients and flavors u enjoy. if u dont want to cook ur own beans u could replace with a can of chili with beans and instead of ranch u can use sourcream and cheese sauce instead of shredded cheese i added some cajun seasoning n bacon bits after trying mine for a littler more flavor. If you try this recipe please share with me your pictures!

Does everyone know what the Greatest Commandment is?

I found it so simple yet deep that when I wrote my book that starts with the 10 commandments and what Jesus says found here I wrote them on a paper and put on the wall right where i can see when im laying down in bed. If you are unfamiliar with the Greatest Commandments they originally appear in the old testament and again Jesus quotes them in the Gospels.

“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” (Matthew 22:36 NIV).  Jesus replied, ” ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’  This is the first and greatest commandment.  And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’  All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments” (Matthew 22:37-40)
After a session of prayer and seeking the Lord it quickly came to my attention that's the answer if I only Loved the Lord God with my ALL then I wouldn't be having the problems I was praying about so I am doing this study for this mornings devotion time and wanted to share it with you too.

Here's what I'm reading:How to Love God with All Your Heart he discusses all 4 included heart, soul, mind, and strength. I hope it gives you some insight and me too. I am praying that you have a day guided by the Masters Hands with peace, joy, and lot's of love.

Blessings to You,

Why I LOVE Shopping at HEB!

In my small town of Corsicana, TX we might not have all the options bigger cities do but I am so thankful that we have my favorite grocery store and that's HEB I just wish we had an HEB Plus so it's more like a Super Wmart which I do not like going to because it's so big and all the essentials are so far apart I get easily distracted in there so it's probably good we just have a small HEB.

In my 5 years of being a stay at home mom and wife and managing our families one income I've tried shopping at all the different big chain stores our town has to offer: Super Wal-Mart (too big and too many options), Aldi's (too small and not enough choices or selection), Brookshires (too expensive for most items), Super 1 (some good deals and selections but not as good as.... HEB.

For me shopping at HEB is easy, convenient, and I save money with it's great selection of generic products at rock bottom prices it's really a no brainer to me. In comparison Super Wal-Mart is a great option but my preference is the smaller HEB to get everything my family needs on a weekly basis. From food to bathroom and personal needs I can easily get from one end of their store to the other without feeling exhausted unlike at Wal-Mart which is twice the size and when it comes to checking out HEB's staff is for the most part always very helpful and friendly and quickly checks you out and the wait is never more than 5 minutes and they are always quick to open another lane when it gets backed up unlike at WalMart even with the self-check out lanes it's usually always a hassle to check out and frustrating and several times I've been overcharged or double-charged for items and the customer service is not that great or professionalism big difference to me.

Also when it comes to saving money which is very important to me HEB makes it very easy and customer friendly by offering in-store coupons on alot of their brands and generic brands which I already buy and our HEB just upgraded to digital coupons and their's alot of generic coupons on things I already buy, very exciting! I've tried using coupons at Super WalMart and if I have more than one they usually do not apply them right or it's just a big hassle.

So for me I'm sticking to good ol' HEB where they print and circle how much you save on your receipt and the receipts are not filled with long lines of numbers but the actual product you bought and price so it's extremely easy to read afterwards and it always adds up and is accurate. So, thank you HEB for making this moms life a bit easier atleast when it comes to saving at the grocery store.

Words of Encouragement

Today's Scripture Verses:

"You stand up to judge those who do evil, O God, and to rescue the oppressed of the earth."
Psalm 76:9

Proverbs 16
"We can make our own plans, but the Lord gives the right answer.
People may be pure in their own eyes, but the Lord examines their motives.
Commit your actions to the Lord, and your plans will succeed.
The Lord has made everything for his own purposes, even the wicked for a day of disaster.
The Lord detests the proud; they will surely be punished.
Unfailing love and faithfulness make atonement for sin. By fearing the Lord, people avoid evil.
We can make our plans but the Lord determines our steps. 1-9
How much better to get wisdom than gold, and good judgement than silver! 16
Discretion is a life-giving fountain to those who possess it, but discipline is
wasted on fools.
From a wise mind comes wise speech; the words of the wise are persuasive.
Kind words are like honey-- sweet to the soul and healthy for the body.
There is a path before each person that seems right,
but it ends in death. 22-25
We may throw the dice, but the Lord determines how they fall." 33

save by refinishing cheap or even free furniture

i've recently started using Kilz to spray down different pieces and refinish them. I've yet to fully use the refinishing techniques that you can do on wood furniture but plan to and here's a great read on the steps to doing that and a great picture example above.

http://www.quickenloans.com/blog/idiots-guide-refinishing-wood-furniture

You can find lots of great items for free on trash day we've found a futon and a desk and I've seen many more items that could be reused and refinished. If you are not brave enough to do that you can also find great bargain pieces at garage and yard sales and even thrift stores that are really great deals and an easy way to find great furniture without paying full prices and getting into debt.

i hope this inspires and helps someone.

Heres some projects i've done just playing around with mainly Kilz.

Before and After Gold mirror I used Kilz and then mixed pink n purple acrilic paints for the outside of frame
and finished it off with the help of my toddler boys red and blue glitter. we had alot of fun. the table underneath has been sprayed with one coat of kilz n i might do a rustic look by sanding it down to show the wood grain in between the white base and ill add a pic when it's finished.

this was a gold frame i like the white frosting  on the glass but will clean it up a bit and might do some details to the frame

this one is finished i used kilz on the gold frame and then went over that with a blue water color
and the inside frame is done with a glitter gel pen and the outside which u cant see i used water color and a gel glitter pen

I wish I would've known what I'm about to share with you when I had my first job and earned my first paycheck. It's tooken me hours of studying and many many money failures to learn what I'm about to share with you so take notes and read often and most importantly apply what you read and you will succeed so much faster with your financial goals than most that are in their 30-40's.

1. save 10%, give 10% (to your local church or community organization you support or believe in)

3. live within and even below your means save more than 10% if you can
4. learn to wait and be patient a very valuable skill if you want to succeed in life and not spend all your money on debt
5. stay out of debt avoid costly loans
6. get a 0% interest credit card or low interest loan and pay it off fast to improve your credit score or establish your credit only if you plan on getting a home mortgage but that's not the only option for home buying (click this link for that post)
7. do not blow all your money on your friends or be their lender very dangerous make friends who are wise and smart with their money as you are

9. take advantage of employer benefits and actively use and manage them (more on that right here)

How to Succeed on Your First Job

1. Realize their's no perfect job
2. Have a focused goal to succeed (example: earn enough for a car)

Today I read from Proverbs 15 and Psalm 73 (month 6 add 0= 60+date 15=75) well i read Psalm 73 but just realized it should've been Psalm 75 so I'll read that one now and then share something that sticks out to me for Words of Encouragement today. Hope you get your bible reading on today too and feel free to share something that really encouraged you today in the comments or via email.

Have a Blessed day, Jesus love you!

Humble Pie Not My Favorite

How many people know that God will prune us and humble us to help us see things we need to work on and to build our character so we can produce more fruit for Him and better live our lives purposes? Well today was my day to be served some humble pie and it definitely isn't my favorite.

I went to pay the rent and since we are doing the Dave Ramsey Cash Envelope System i was going to pay in cash. I asked her for change and she said oh we only accept exact amount as we dont have change that's why we ask for a check or money order. I left frustrated n upset considering I'd never been aware of such a rule n this gal was farely new so I couldn't pay my rent in cash because I had too much.....

Later that night I went to buy our groceries it was a small list so I decided to go against my rule of using a calculator well i forgot my food cash envelope in the car so before I checked out I went to get that and felt pretty sure my full buggy would easily be under the $80 I had for food. half way through the checkout i look up and see the total already at $150 and I was convinced their must be an error surely this little bit wasn't that much is what i stated to the cashier so they scan through everything and let me know that it's accurate so I'm thinking how would I even begin to put back $60 it seemed impossible to me at the time so I left my whole buggy surrendering in humiliation so upset and frustrated I went to my car in dismay and started crying so ashamed that I failed again today in using cash. Normally if this would've happened I would've consolidated our budget to cover up my overspending and went on. This time confronted with only cash I couldn't pay because I didn't have enough money...... I had to tell my husband what happened and he being the compassionate man he is offered to go get a small list of stuff so I gave him a list and he went bless his heart for being such a great supporter and encourager.

Jesus on Money: Part 2

You Cannot Serve Two Masters

19 Don’t save treasures for yourselves here on earth. Moths and rust will destroy them. And thieves can break into your house and steal them.20 Instead, save your treasures in heaven, where they cannot be destroyed by moths or rust and where thieves cannot break in and steal them. 21 Your heart will be where your treasure is.
22 “The only source of light for the body is the eye. If you look at people and want to help them, you will be full of light. 23 But if you look at people in a selfish way, you will be full of darkness. And if the only light you have is really darkness, you have the worst kind of darkness.[c]
24 “You cannot serve two masters at the same time. You will hate one and love the other, or you will be loyal to one and not care about the other. You cannot serve God and Money[d] at the same time.
I absolutely love the wisdom taught by real teachers such as Dave Ramsey and Mary Hunt on money and prosperity they teach something that I wish I would've learned as a youth. Live off of 80%, Give 10%, Save 10%. I love this! Sounds simple right but how many of us ever do this? We usually spend over what we make and it's gone as soon as we get it plus we use credit cards too. It's depressing to live pay check to paycheck and not feel like you can get anywhere with your life because you are always broke. Over the past several years I've really been studying and learning how to live on less than we make. We are paying off our debt and saving to buy a home that we can afford to pay off in 15 years. That's another thing they both teach you to do; which completely goes against what most people are doing. Another reason I like them, I've always been rebellious and against the tide kind of gal. So for further studies I highly recommend anything published by Dave Ramsey or Mary Hunt very good information and start saving today and stop using credit cards now! Cut them up throw them away and use less than what you have. Be happy and content most importantly with your lot in life. Be resourceful and use what you have. Make a list of wishes, dreams, wants, goals and work towards those and some of them you will realize just aren't important after awhile and others will be. Don't be afraid to dream big but start small today with what you have. Give generously from a glad and joyous heart that's what is pleasing to our Father God. Money isn't evil it's just a tool, what people do with it determines rather it's used for good or for bad, for selfish means or for worthwhile charitable endeavors. Whatever the desires are in the heart come out with the more money you have. If you have a pure heart you can be filthy rich and it will not corrupt that purity to serve and to live for Jesus and so yes He will certainly trust you with more as you prove to do good with little.

Put God’s Kingdom First
25 So I tell you, don’t worry about the things you need to live—what you will eat, drink, or wear. Life is more important than food, and the body is more important than what you put on it. 26 Look at the birds. They don’t plant, harvest, or save food in barns, but your heavenly Father feeds them. Don’t you know you are worth much more than they are? 27 You cannot add any time to your life by worrying about it.
28 “And why do you worry about clothes? Look at the wildflowers in the field. See how they grow. They don’t work or make clothes for themselves. 29 But I tell you that even Solomon, the great and rich king, was not dressed as beautifully as one of these flowers. 30 If God makes what grows in the field so beautiful, what do you think he will do for you? It’s just grass—one day it’s alive, and the next day someone throws it into a fire. But God cares enough to make it beautiful. Surely he will do much more for you. Your faith is so small!

31 “Don’t worry and say, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear?’ 32 That’s what those people who don’t know God are always thinking about. Don’t worry, because your Father in heaven knows that you need all these things. 33 What you should want most is God’s kingdom and doing what he wants you to do. Then he will give you all these other things you need. 34 So don’t worry about tomorrow. Each day has enough trouble of its own. Tomorrow will have its own worries.
Please see part 3 for more biblical references to giving, money and possessions and worry.

Jesus on Money: Part 1

Jesus Teaches About Giving
“Be careful! When you do something good, don’t do it in front of others so that they will see you. If you do that, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.
“When you give to those who are poor, don’t announce that you are giving. Don’t be like the hypocrites. When they are in the synagogues and on the streets, they blow trumpets before they give so that people will see them. They want everyone to praise them. The truth is, that’s all the reward they will get.So when you give to the poor, don’t let anyone know what you are doing.[a]Your giving should be done in private. Your Father can see what is done in private, and he will reward you.

Yes Jesus wants us to give! now the debate is 2 fold on one hand people say well those churches just want to get my money. yes they need your offering, tithes, and donations for all the outreach programs they provide and to stay open. running any building, a church building or otherwise costs money and a church gets their money from the members who attend; just like a business gets its money from the customers who shop there. the church is like a free for all community college but if nobody donates then they will have to close down. The second common argument I hear is the whole prosperity gospel crap that's taught on tv, which really gives non church goers a very bad wrong message about giving especially if they don't go to church or read their bible. They say if you give $1000 dollars most likely to them and they are playing the church God's going to give you that back 10 fold. And they will probably say I tried that and it didn't work so God doesnt really care about me. What a bunch of garbage! I really feel bad for people who do this and believe this and greatly angered by those who are teaching such mess. Stop watching church on tv and be a member of a local church in your town and one that supports your local community!! Then you will understand what it's like to desire to give when you see all the good they are doing with your children and grandchildren.
